Pop Princess Britney Spears Is Back With A New Sound On Single ‘Make Me’

2016 is getting weirder, man. Everyone’s playing Pokémon and listening to new Blink-182, and now Britney Spears has released new music.

We’ve said it before but:

If it feels like it’s been a long time since Britney Spears last released new music, that’s probably because it has been bloody ages. Her last record was out in 2013.

Now Spears has released the first track from her forthcoming album, a project she’s been teasing for most of 2016. The tune is called Make Me and it’s a far cry from what you’d expect from Britney, bordering on electro/chill rather than pop.

Teaming up with Oakland rapper G-EazyMake Me is a slow-burning, synth heavy cut. Spears herself summed her move towards a much less poppy style in an interview with E! News last month. “It’s a little melodic, a little more not so poppy,” said Spears of the new album. “It’s kind of chill. Very chill.”

In that interview Spears also revealed that this new record and stylistic change had been in the works for quite some time. “I’ve been working on this project for a year and a half now, almost two years so it really means a lot to me. It’s my baby.”

If this latest tune is any indication of what the album is going to be like, Britney is sure to fair a lot better with it than she did with the mixed reviews that came with her 2013 LP Britney Jean.
