Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Album Features Original The Mars Volta Lineup & John Frusciante

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez continues to be as restless as ever while he bides his time before the inevitable Mars Volta reunion. Today, the rocker has announced he has a whole album of unheard The Mars Volta tracks in his hot little hands featuring John Frusciante. And he wants to release it.

The album was dubbed Arañas en La Sombra and actually features the original Mars Volta line up, both deceased and otherwise indicating that this will be a hugely important cultural centre-piece for the bands cult-like followers.

What’s more, some of the heavy lifting for the album was done by none-other than Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante who has been known to rear his head from the blackness from time to time.

The album has been traced back to circa 2012, about a year before the band would throw in the towel. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez will be releasing unheard material composed between 2008-2013 with a release expected to bi-monthly – You can see the release schedule here. The 12 albums in total will all be released under his solo moniker.

You can hear one of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s solo tracks, To Kill A Chi Chi from Sworn Virgins which dropped on Friday.
