Splendour Organisers Respond To Huge Delays Getting Out Of The Festival

Splendour In The Grass organisers have responded to punters after traffic delays forced many festival-goers to spend hours in their car attempting to leave the site on Monday morning.

On the Splendour Facebook page some punters have complained that they waited for up to seven hours to hit the highway as cars were backed up for miles.

Now organiser Jessica Ducrou has responded in a statement saying that the festival were doing their best but punters were warned that there would be delays.

“While some campers were still onsite up until 3.45pm, (our campgrounds are open until 5.00pm) we did actively promote to all patrons, via both social media and Splendour’s electronic newsletter, to expect delays,” Ducrou said (via ABC).

“We also made sure that a number of stalls, serving both food and water, were readily available. It’s important to note that we spend three days receiving campers and everyone wants to depart in a short period of time on Monday morning.”

She further called delays “inevitable” adding that they were “consistent with camping festivals around the world.”

Earlier in the weekend Splendour had problems getting patrons home on buses as many were left waiting for hours to exit the festival. The festival apologised profusely the next day saying that it was due to an altered traffic plan that didn’t work. They offered everyone free transport on the second day.
