Morrissey Has Purposefully Snubbed Meat-Friendly Venues & All Of Brisbane On His Australian Tour

Morrissey has addressed the elephant in the room following his Australian tour announcement earlier in the day: the exclusion of any city in The Sunshine State, aka Queensland.

The legendary indie-rocker has explained to News Limited, that he’s deliberately skipping Brisbane, as he’s simply sick of their shit. Both times he’s played there, apparently, audience members have heckled him and despite usually having retort locked and loaded, Morrissey feels a show is beyond salvage from that point.

“I didn’t want to return to Brisbane because I’ve played there twice and on both nights I was heckled, which doesn’t bother me that much, but even if I reply with something snazzy, the heckler always wins because the night has been soured and we no longer feel welcome. That’s life.”

Brissy locals can’t take it too personally though, given that he’ll also be missing Sydney after performing a string of shows here as part of Vivid Festival. Morrissey is therefore bucking the trend of artists that stick to the east coast capitals, explaining some people may see Australia as just “Sydney and Melbourne, but I’m not one of them.”

As with Vivid and other performances, the venues for his Australian run will be strictly meat-free, with Morrissey only agreeing to perform at venues that play ball with his requests. In a kinda racial comment, he’s expressed a desire for more artists to follow suit.

“I wish more artists would adopt this. But we go to China this year and it’s such a flesh-eaters paradise that we feel certain there will be skewered dog for sale somewhere. The halls in Taiwan and Iceland would not go flesh-free, so we refused to book the dates. It’s a matter of humanitarian progress.”

Fortunately, we are back in his good books after that whole incident where he publicly slammed the Abbott government’s plan to cull feral cats.

Morrissey will be in town, well some towns, this October with tickets on sale from Friday, 5th August. See details, below.
