Melbourne Music Bank Comp Returns For Another Year To Help Out Local Musos

UPDATE 27/10/16: Bank Of Melbourne have announced the winner of this year’s Melbourne Music Bank competition.

ORIGINAL STORY: Bank Of Melbourne’s Melbourne Music Bank competition has announced its return for 2016, urging budding local musicians to share their best tunes for the chance to take home some of this year’s $60,000 prize pool to help kickstart their careers.

Returning for its fourth year, Melbourne Music Bank is ready to help aspiring artists and bands break into the music industry. This year’s winner will receive four days of recording time at Melbourne’s The Studios In The City to record, mix and master an EP, as well as two music videos, cover art, printed CDs, styling, media training and a photoshoot for the release.

The winner will get to take advantage of management and mentoring from Matt O’Connor, publicity by On The Map PR, radio plugging by Varrasso PR and gig bookings by 123 Agency, which is a whole lotta’ stuff. What’s more, the winner will also have the opportunity to tour Australia’s east coast and perform at Beyond The Valley festival.

Melbourne muso Ella Hooper (pictured) returns as Melbourne Music Bank’s ambassador, and she’s super-keen to hear all the homegrown material Victoria has to offer.

“I’m thrilled to be involved with the brilliant Melbourne Music Bank again. This program is really snow-balling,” Hooper says.

“Last year we saw some downright incredible entries. The wealth of talent in this city never fails to impress and inspire me.

“I can’t wait to see what this year’s comp turns up and to work with the entrants all the way through to finals and beyond, finishing up with a gorgeous gig at a dream venue!”

The winner of last year’s Melbourne Music Bank competition, Jade Alice, has gone on to see her winning song Kick Drum played on community radio, and has also played a sold-out single launch show and has appeared on the children’s television channel ABC3.

To enter this year’s Melbourne Music Bank competition, artists must be from Victoria, and must submit an original song to the Melbourne Music Bank website before 5pm on Saturday, 27th August. The public will then vote on four finalists from a shortlist of 12, and the winner will be selected after a live performance by the finalists at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on 25th October.

Jac Phillips, Head of Brand & Marketing at Bank of Melbourne, says the company is pumped to present Melbourne Music Bank for the fourth year.

“This competition is one of the many ways Bank of Melbourne is supporting the arts and it’s getting bigger and better every year,” he says.

“Last year’s Melbourne Music Bank was a runaway success, with a record number of entrants and votes. We’re incredibly proud of the success of our 2014 winner, Heloise and 2015 winner, Jade Alice.

“Bank of Melbourne is here to help Victorians make it, and this competition is a great way to kick start the career of up-and-coming musicians.”
