Matt Roberts, A Founding Member Of 3 Doors Down, Has Died

UPDATE 22/08/16: Darrell Roberts, the father of former 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts, has revealed further details surrounding his son’s death at the age of 38.

ORIGINAL STORY: Matt Roberts, the founding guitarist for US band 3 Doors Down has died at the age of 38.

His father Darrell Roberts confirmed his death to TMZ, telling them that it is “devastating”.

Roberts was due to perform at a charity event in Wisconsin. He was staying at the same hotel as his father and was last seen after a rehearsal that ended at 1am on Saturday night local time.

Darrell was reportedly woken at 9am and told his son had passed away although the cause of death is still unknown at this point.

Roberts was the original guitarist for 3 Doors Down and was in the band for nearly 16 years. He left in 2012 to focus on his health after dealing with circulation problems exacerbated by constant touring.

He formed the band in 1996 with frontman Brad Arnold and bassist Todd Harrell. Arnold is the only one of the three still in the band after Harrell left in 2013.

Together they released five albums with Roberts’ last being 2011’s Time Of My Life.
