I Killed The Prom Queen On Why They’ve Pulled Out Of Unify Gathering 2017

I Killed The Prom Queen guitarist and clean vocalist Jona Weinhofen has shed some light on why the band had to pull the plug on their 2017 Unify Gathering gig today.

In a statement to Music Feeds, Weinhofen explains that the Adelaide riff crushers’ decision to bin their Unify slot came down to a combination of circumstances, which made playing the festival too unaffordable to pull off.

“As most people are aware I reside in the US now so logistics in IKTPQ partaking in any activity are difficult,” Weinhofen says. “When we accepted the offer to play Unify the band had plans to all be in Australia writing and recording at that time.

“Unfortunately some circumstances in my personal life recently changed and I would no longer be in the country at the time of Unify. Unfortunately the money IKTPQ was offered was not enough to cover my international flights and the band’s other performance related costs which would have had us running at a loss in order to perform at Unify.”

On the plus side, it sounds like IKTPQ will be hitting the studio to record some new shit. The lads were supposed to have a new disc coming out last year, but the follow-up to 2014’s Beloved never materialised. Looks like 2017 could be the year it finally does.

Meanwhile, there’s still plenty for punters to sink their teeth into on the Unify Gathering 2017 lineup, with Aussie punk rock royals Bodyjar being announced as IKTPQ’s official replacement.

That’s in addition to such previously announced heavyweights as AlexisonfireViolent SohoNorthlaneEvery Time I DieThe Getaway PlanHouse Vs HurricaneLetlive.Thy Art Is Murder and loads more.

Now bigger than ever, Unify Gathering 2017 will be a two-night, three-day affair going down at the stunning Tarwin Meadows in Gippsland from Friday, 13th January until Sunday, 15th January.

And ICYMI: the festival also just unveiled a buy-now-pay-later program for next year’s tickets.
