Fucked Up To Release Rock Opera In June

It’s about time someone came up with a decent rock opera, frankly. And who better to step up than Canadian hardcore punks Fucked Up ? The six-piece’s new album, a bona fide rock opera, comes out on June 7, and is entitled David Comes To Life.

The LP will contain 18 songs and clocks in at an appropriately long 78 minutes. The album’s first single is called The Other Shoe and is currently available for free download at Matadorrecords.com. The single is the first of four to be taken from the new album before it gets released.

The band have actually been discussing the album on their blog Lookingforgold.blogspot.com, explaining that the record has been in the band’s pipeline for a good while.

“We had gotten used to the easy-going pace of putting out 23,435,494 seven-inch singles a year, which we’d been doing for the previous five years,” they posted. “We decide the only thing more ridiculous than putting out a 73-minute punk record was to just say fuck it and do a musical… We honestly came up with this idea in, like, 2006 and have been meaning to do it since then.”

Not ones for doing things by halves, Fucked Up have set up a special website devoted to David Comes To Life, where more information about the album can be found.

The new album is Fucked Up’s third in total and their follow-up to 2008’s The Chemistry Of Common Life. The band’s debut, Hidden World, came out in 2006. As they say though, they have also released a lot of EPs, singles, split releases and tapes over the years.
