Solar-Powered Australian Festival Off The Grid Announces 2016 Lineup

Following a hugely successful year in 2015, Off The Grid festival has announced its lineup for December 2016, where it will once again give Melbourne another night of self-sufficient and environmentally-friendly live entertainment.

This year will see yet another live music lineup of totally appropriate summer jams. This includes the likes of music-makers No Zu, Izabel from radio-show-turned-label Lullabies For Insomniacs, and the classy cool of The Senegambian Jazz Band. Catch the full first lineup announcement, below.

Going down bang on the summer solstice — where the sun is at its highest — Off The Grid 2016 will offer an array of live music, local art and entertainment and local food, all running on local power. The event’s sound system and all other electronics will be powered through a battery bank as well as solar panels, dramatically reducing the events footprint and that’s only the beginning, according to organisers.

“The solutions are already out there, there are so many that are cost-effective right now but they don’t seem to happening fast enough,” Off The Grid organisers say. “We’re trying to influence culture to create a self-sufficient future faster, through inspiration and fun.”

The aim of the game is to use Melbourne’s thriving creative culture to emphasis the importance of sustainable energy. Sounds like a visit to Off The Grid might make you re-think your connection to the grid.

Last year’s Off The Grid lineup featured the likes of Cut Copy DJs, Banoffee and Tornado Wallace. Catch this year’s lineup alongside ticket details, below.

100 per cent of profits from the festival go directly to building a solar project which will speed up the transition of Melbourne becoming a self-sufficient city.
