PREMIERE STREAM: Robbie Miller Gives Us A Track By Track Run Down Of His New EP ‘Closer To Home’

Robbie Miller‘s second EP ‘Closer To Home’ comes out this Friday and in preparation for its release, he has given us a premiere stream and track-by-track breakdown of what he has in store.

After a huge 2016, including triple j airplay and national tour supports for Josh Pyke and Dustin Tebbutt, a support spot for Michael Franti, plus a slot at BIGSOUND, Miller is couldn’t be more ready to drop Closer To Home.

A follow-up to his debut EP ‘The Faster The Blood Slows’, this is an atmospheric, emotional affair that showcases his unique and powerful vocals up front. Oscar Dawson (HOLY HOLY, Alex Lahey, Ali Barter) played a part in the production of ‘Closer To Home’, and it is a beautiful blend of his newer meddling in electronica and his origins of folk.

Road

This is the first song that I ever collaborated on and is about the ambivalence of life and the journey we all go on as people. Writing with someone else was a very different experience but one I feel was beneficial and I am looking forward to working with more people in the future.

This Death

The oldest song on the EP, This Death was written in 2011 and was a country song. The original demo had female backing vocals and a banjo which sonically was completely different to this version. Lyrically the song is about feeling as if you don’t have control of your own life and despite all your best efforts you can’t gain control. I was definitely feeling this way musically in 2011 and really struggled to find a way out.

Fire

Fire plays with the notions of religion, love, lust and sin. Bending your morals, breaking everything you believe in just to find happiness. Being willing to risk absolutely everything just to find a simple connection. That’s what fire is about.

So Long

So Long is the most impersonal song on the EP. Back in 2014, I tried to write a few songs that were reflective of a story that I hadn’t personally lived. It was a strange and unusual experience at the time but now looking back over the last two years, I definitely feel that I am better off because of the challenge.

Me & You

All you really have in life are the relationships you share with the people closest to you. In relationships you make mistakes, either individually or together, that’s just life. Me & You is about making those mistakes, feeling hurt, frustrated, disappointed but finding ways through.

‘Closer To Home’ is released this Friday, October 28th, followed by a national tour spanning Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Listen to a premiere stream of the EP, and see full tour dates below.
