The Strokes Tease “Surprises” And Release Plans For Their New Album

In a recent interview, hugely influential New York outfit The Strokes have stoked the fire that is talk about their long-awaited new album. Turns out, the offering is well on its way, but if you were planning on getting excited about it, don’t — the band want to keep things chill.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture was tightlipped on the topic of their new album, but still managed to let loose enough information to NME for it to be deemed a straight-up tease. Fraiture said the group is “definitely working”, on the follow-up to 2013’s Comedown Machine, but before fans get carried away with a potential release date, he adds:

“As people know by now, deadlines are not our forte. Anticipation and surprises are still part of the excitement of releasing new music.”

The band’s guitarist Nick Valensi echoed these sentiments, explaining that while the band is working on new music, and has plans to release something “hopefully next year”, they’re going to let the album do the talking.

“If I start saying that now, though, then people just get too excited and then there’s all this hype you’ve got to compete with and that’s not fun. If anything I’d rather just pull a Beyoncé next year and just drop shit,” he said.

No doubt some of the delay is due to the fact that both Nick’s are championing side projects. Fraiture is busy with his new project Summer Moon, and Valensi with the power-poppy outfit CRX.

The dust is still yet to settle on their most recent release, the Future Present Past EP, but safe to say fans will not be satisfied until they get a full album from the band.
