University Of Melbourne To Host New Two Month 2017 Festival Shimmerlands

Melbourne music dudes Shadow Electric are set to bring a huge new festival to the University Of Melbourne in 2017 called Shimmerlands.

Over two massive months the uni will host a bunch of different music, arts, food and film events – with Shimmerlands taking over the campus throughout January and February next year.

Jay Rayner and David Chestwig of Shadow Electric are the brains behind the operation, and Rayner told Broadsheet the reason for choosing Melbourne Uni was simple.

“It’s quite rare to find such a beautiful space in close proximity to the city that can hold thousands of people,” Rayner said. “And it’s essentially not activated for two months of the year, which is crazy.”

Bars and outdoor dining will litter the uni, while there’ll also be a a grand concert hall and an open-air amphitheatre. Shadow Electric have also called on the services of Supple Fox, the peeps behind Dark Mofo festival, to put together a killer lineup.

US four piece rockers Parquet Courts have already been confirmed for a headline show on Thursday, 5th January, with the rest of the lineup to be announced soon. “We’ll be keeping a lot of the weekend programming up our sleeves, because we can get some really big, exciting names that way,” said Rayner.

Shimmerlands will take place from Sunday, 1st January through to Sunday, 26th February at the University Of Melbourne Parkville Campus.

You can also catch Parquet Courts at Falls Festival 2016/2017.
