Spice Girls defined ‘girl power’ in the ’90s and now a clip has surfaced to remind us of the power of the fivesom.
Footage has emerged of the girls back in 1997 filming an advertisement for Polaroid with a particularly sexist director.
He sets of Scary Spice (AKA. Mel B) by asking the girls to have cleavage or midriff showing and before long Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell) and Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) are also calling him out.
“You chauvinistic pig. That’s such an easy cop out,” Ginger says in the clip as Posh whips his sunglasses off his head.
“At your age, you should know better by now. You’re in advertising,” she continues as the man goes from being very confident to noticeably nervous.
The girls then sarcastically congratulate the director for causing a commotion and Scary turns to the camera and says, “And we especially thank you, because he’s the one who said can you show a bit of cleavage and midriff. And we said no, girl power!”
Ka-pow. Almost two decades later and Spice Girls’ girl power still packs a punch.
