Triple J Reveals Matt & Alex’s Replacements, Farewells More Hosts

Fans of Matt Okine & Alex Dyson‘s triple j ‘Breakfast’ show have been in shock since yesterday morning when the guys announced mattandalexit they’ll be finishing up their time at the station at the end of the year.

Now, the station has not only announced their replacements for breakfast, but also shocked pretty much their entire audience by announcing that a slew of other loved presenters will also be finishing up at the end of 2016.

As well as Matt & Alex, triple j will say farewell to beloved presenter Lewi ‘Lew-Boy’ McKirdy who’s moving to the UK indefinitely after being the voice of Lunch for more than half a decade. Kyran Wheatley, who presents Weekend Arvos with Gen Fricker is also moving on, as is Roots n’ All presenter Sarah Howells, who has been at the station for eleven years.

Now to who’ll be filling the massive shoes of our dearly departed.

First thing’s first, the new ‘Breakfast’ team are a relatively unknown duo of Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton, and they’ll be joined by journo Brook Boney who’ll take care of the morning news.

Although clearly an unexpected pick, Adelaide-hailing 23-year-old Ben and 20-year-old Liam haven’t been plucked from complete obscurity — both of them cutting their teeth on community radio since their teens. They’ll also be joined by Aussie Paralympian of the Year Dylan Alcott and Gen Fricker from Weekend Arvos as regular guests on the new breakfast show.

Fricker will also be taking over Lewi McKirdy’s Lunch slot, while Allcott will be the new sole presenter for Weekend Arvos.

Lead singer of Melbourne band Saskwatch Nkechi Anele will be handed the reins of triple j‘s Roots N All show after sporadically filling in for the now-departing Sarah Howells over the past six months.

So yeah, keep breaking while you’re taking all that in, and remember that Matt & Alex also announced today that they’d be holding a string of fairwell parties across the country, featuring a string of their favourite Aussie acts.
