The Weeknd Has Finally Revealed Why He Cut His Hair

We’ve lost a lot in 2016 including The Weeknd‘s cactus-like hair which he cut without warning when he announced his new album Starboy in September.

It was the source of many memes and fans were left wondering whether all of his talent was harnessed in those expertly arranged dreads.

Luckily, his new music released ahead of Starboy‘s drop tomorrow suggests that he’s still got it but he has revealed exactly why he cut the hair.

In an interview with Beats 1‘s Zane Lowe he said, “The vision wasn’t there anymore.”

“It was there and then the music was getting really sad.”

You’d think that he would’ve been somewhat sad getting rid of what was becoming an icon in its own right but nope, he was stoked to chop it off.

“It was the greatest feeling of all time,” he said.

“It was so good. I could sleep better, I felt lighter, when I perform, I perform better and feel better. It was cool. You don’t even realise how much of a pain in the arse it was until you cut it.”

The hair isn’t completely gone. When he chopped it off he kept it and now it’s safely locked away. It will no doubt one day sell for thousands on Ebay.

The full interview with Zane Lowe is due to hit the web tomorrow when the album drops. During the chat the pair discuss the album’s guests, The Weeknd’s social anxiety and sobriety.

Earlier today, The Weeknd shared a short film made up with music featured on Starboy. Tomorrow, a The Weeknd merch pop-up store will open in Melbourne in support of the new record.
