Violent Soho took home two ARIAs last night for Best Rock Album and Best Group but they almost missed picking up the latter because they were too busy sinking beers.
Their record label I Oh You initially had to go up and accept the award for them after they didn’t make it to the stage but luckily they crashed onto the stage just in time. They were cool, calm and collected on stage but now footage has emerged of the backstage scramble to get to the stage after hearing they’d won an ARIA.
Basically, the boys had just finished performing Like Soda and thought they were done for the night, clearly forgetting they could collect one more award.
This video, posted to their Facebook, captures the moment they start to freak out about making it to the stage on time. They’re seen waiting for the lift to open and anyone who has ever stood in front of a lift while they’re running late will know there’s nothing more frustrating.
“We’re not gonna make it,” they say at one point before they decide, “nah, they’ll just wait.”
One voice is heard in the video saying, “I’m sooo high,” as they finally get in the lift to go to the stage.
It’s one for the ARIA history books and an almost scripted move for the Soho boys to be sinking beers instead of accepting their own award. Classic.
