After Three Mixtapes, Chance The Rapper Is Working On An Album

These days mixtapes are so tight and professional that it’s almost hard to tell the difference between a mixtape and album, so it might come as a surprise to some of you that Chance The Rapper is yet to release his debut album.

He’s released three mixtapes, capped off by this year’s Coloring Book, but now he’s ready to start work on his official debut album.

Chance was just in the UK for his Magnificent Coloring World Tour and he dropped into BBC Radio 1 Xtra to have a chat with host DJ Semtex.

Semtex naturally asked what’s next for the rapper following Coloring Book and he said, “What is next? I’ll probably put out an album, that’s what I’ve been thinking about, just between us.”

“I don’t know exactly the format every time when I’m making something but a lot of times I have an idea, and I think what I’m working on right now is an album.”

For those who are confused between mixtapes and albums, Chance gets it.

“Mixtapes have been confused for albums for a long time,” he said.

Chance’s album, “might not be physical, or a disc or something, but an album that comes with its own live show is important.”

He just cancelled the last few dates of his European tour due to “personal reasons” but thankfully for Aussie fans, he’s still going ahead with his first tour down-under. He’ll be here at the end of December for Beyond The Valley, Field Day and numerous headline gigs.

You can watch him talking about the album below from the 26 minute mark.
