Metallica To Tour Australia In 2017, Says AJ Maddah

UPDATE: Metallica Have “Gotta Go To Australia”, Says Drummer Lars Ulrich

ORIGINAL STORY: Cancel your next haircut, because Australia’s very own heavy music touring Nostradamus AJ Maddah has made yet another prophecy… and it’s a BIG one.

As in BIG FOUR big.

The former Soundwave boss reckons Metallica are teeing up an Aussie tour for 2017, telling fans on Twitter: “START SAVING YOUR PEENNIES AUSTRALIA #Metallica 🙂 #2017” (before swiftly clarifying that the operative word was “pennies”, not “peenies”)

The thrashlords, who just unleashed their 10th studio album Hardwired… To Self Destruct upon the world, will be touring Asia across January before heading to Europe in February and South America in March/April. After that, the band have no further tour dates locked in.

Reformed snare murderer Lars Ulrich hinted at the band’s 2017 tour plans earlier this year, saying that the world trek would be similar in scale to their last global jaunt for Death Magnetic.

“We did 180 shows on the Death Magnetic tour in two-week periods over three years,” Ulrich said at the time. “That’s what works for us. We’re going to start pretty much full-on touring in January.”

‘Tallica last toured Australia as part of the Soundwave 2013 lineup, but they haven’t played their own headlining dates since 2010’s Death Magnetic visit. So by our calculations, that puts the Masters of Puppets well overdue for their live return.

All signs point to Maddah’s prediction checking out, especially since he recently accurately foretold both the Slipknot and Underoath Australian tours ahead of their official announcements.

Nothing left to do now but brace for Whiplash.

UPDATE 30/11/16: AJ Maddah has taken to Twitter to say he has been told that Metallica will tour Australia in the Australian summer of 2017.
