The Real Hottest 100 MVPs Were On The Triple J Facebook Page

Sydney producer Flume may have taken out the top spot yesterday in triple j‘s Hottest 100 of 2016, but there was a battle of the different kind taking place throughout the day on the triple j Facebook page.

It all began when Facebook user Jack Taylor began a string of increasingly hilarious comments each time triple j posted a song in the countdown, starting with Birds Of Tokyo who took out #100 with ‘Brace’.

He soon began to crank things up the humour with some ripper comments on tracks by Flume, The Avalanches, PNAU, Milky Chance, Tash Sultana and more.

Although soon recognised by triple j for his efforts, he wasn’t immune to some roasting either.

Around about the #80 song mark, Taylor found his position as supreme comment lord under threat, as a gent by the name of Ben Lawson began commenting on every single song: “Ya joking should’ve been higher.” And boy did it take off.

Ben’s comments progressively gained more and more likes, and the anticipation for what he’d eventually say on the #1 song was starting to become unbearable.

Sure enough, when the time came, Lawson delivered some absolute gold that somehow managed to secure 14 thousand likes. He too was recognised by triple j for his efforts.

For his part, Jack also finished strong;

Inspired by the battle between these two heavyweights, others began to construct memes relating to their efforts.

John McLennan even created a graph to show who was winning the battle of wits.

After some time, Lucy Dwyer emerged as a clear winner on the meme-front, even using her position to demand inclusion on the Ben vs Jack graph.

Despite the intensity of the contest, the winner on the day was truly good old fashioned Aussie banter – and we can’t wait for what next year will bring.
