Gang Of Youths Announce New Album ‘Go Farther In Lightness’

Sydney rockers Gang Of Youths have announced the massive news that their new album is 95% done, and will be released in August this year.

The second full length album from the guys is set to be titled Go Farther In Lightness, and frontman Dave Le’aupepe revealed to Richard Kingsmill on triple j last night (after shredding it up at Laneway festival) that they wrote the majority of the album whilst touring almost constantly last year.

Le’aupepe also unveiled the first single from the album, a track called ‘What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?’, which will be released to the public this Thursday (set your phone reminders and mark your diaries right damn now!)

While on the show, Le’aupepe also announced some equally big news; that the band are relocating to London before the album is released on August 18th. “Our beautiful keyboardist/guitarist Jung is an American citizen and he’s unable to renew his visa for Australia,” he said.

“The Australian government has basically decided that he doesn’t have any reason to be here long term so we can only get him short-term visas and we haven’t been split up since we were like 13, since we met, so we just want to stay together. We’re like a litter of puppies that refuse to be taken away from each other.”

As cute as that metaphor is, it’s devastating news for GOY fans that they’re leaving the country indefinitely. Don’t worry too much though, because they’ll be back as often as they can. “We’ll have to be back all the time because our parents are here, our families are here, Australia is our home,” Le’aupepe said. “It’s still the best country on the planet so there’s no way we’re going to leave it permanently.”
