In a crafty manoeuvre that surely no other band in existence could pull off, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have seemingly waited til the moment that their brand new album was released to tease the imminent release of yet another even-newer album.
Yep, the Flying Microtonal Banana may have only just dropped into our laps, but there’s already another King Gizz disc to get pumped for.
Taking to Facebook this morning (AKA Friday, 24th Feb, the official release date of their ninth LP Flying Microtonal Banana) King Gizz posted a 60-second clip entitled ‘MURDER OF THE UNIVERSE’ that features surging new music and creepy narration, culminating with what ~could~ possibly be new album artwork, sending shockwaves from here to the Gizzverse.
Naturally, Gizz fans are flipping out hardcore at the prospect of album number 10’s imminent arrival, leaving comments ranging from “Mother of god” to “At this rate they’re gonna die soon” to simply “HUHJJJDJDHJJFHSJABSOSGAKJFHWKBXU!! Yes!”
ICYMI: the turbo-prolific Melbourne psych heads have promised to serve up at least four freakin’ studio albums this year alone, and it seems like they’re well on track to deliver the goods.
From the sounds of things, the next load of Gizz that’s going to be coming our way is going to take the form of the 21-track narrated opus that was previously foretold, AKA the spiritual successor to the band’s second album, psychedelic spaghetti western audiobook Eyes Like The Sky.
Speaking with triple j last week, KG’s Stu Mackenzie explained: “We’re actually making this record at the moment which is completely narrated throughout but it’s not related to Eyes Like The Sky at all. It’s kind of more related to Nonagon Infinity but it’s three distinct stories… kind of short stories that interlink but don’t follow in a linear sense. I think it’s going to be 21 tracks, so a lot of shorter pieces…
“It’s Eyes Like the Sky-esque in the sense that it’s narrated and visual but it’s not really that kind of music.”
While bandmate Ambrose Kenny-Smith added: “Like the worst nightmare of Eyes Like The Sky – it’s pretty dark.”
Should be a good one for the parallel Gizzverse theorists, then.
