Google Music – New Cloud Based Music Service

Google have unveiled a new Cloud based music service called Google Music. The service will be similar to Amazon’s Cloud Drive service where it will allow users to upload their music to an online library from where they can stream their music via several types on internet connected devices.

The service was announced at the Google’s I/O conference and is currently on an invite-only basis limited to U.S. users with preference to those at the conference, or with the new Motorola Xoom tablet (which has Google Android OS installed).

Features include:

– Any Web-connected device with a browser or supporting Flash can stream music from the locker.

– Users who sign up get free music added, similar to how some mp3 players ship with sample tracks.

– Audio quality for streaming files can be as high as 320kbps if the device and network supports it.

– Optimized for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) but any Android device version 2.2 or above can support it.

The beta only allows a library of 20,000 songs, and is free for use until Google announces future pricing options.
