PREMIERE: Food Court Bring Back The Absurdity Of ‘Red Faces’ In ‘Slightest Brightest’ Video

Food Court are making us all nostalgic for an Australian TV era gone by. The guys are embracing the static fuzz, bad ’90s puns and questionable mullet-adjacent haircuts (looking at you Daryl) in the fresh video for their latest single ‘Slightest Brightest’.

The Sydney outfit’s latest clip pays homage to beloved, bizarre and sometimes troubled Aussie variety show Hey Hey It’s Saturday and its ‘Red Faces’ segment, featuring footage of Australian TV hero Daryl Somers, everyone’s favourite villain Red Symons and even throwbacks to classic TV ads from the era. The garage punk-rockers clearly care about the details, even sporting John Farnham and Whitlam-era ‘It’s Time’ tees in the clip.

“James Branson, the director, had the ‘Red Faces’ idea and we loved it,” Food Court tell Music Feeds about the clip’s concept. “It gave us chance to watch 30 episodes of ‘Red Faces’ back to back.”

Food Court also managed to work in a hat tip to Adelaide punks Bad//Dreems who last week unveiled a corker of a clip that pays similar homage to ’90s music TV show Recovery. “Coincidentally we had been working on a similar ’90s style video to Bad Dreems,” explains Food Court’s Cristian Campano. “We had the idea to acknowledge them in our clip so I called [Bad//Dreems frontman] Benny Marwe and floated the idea with him and they thought it was a great idea.”

‘Slightest Brightest’ will feature on Food Court’s debut album (due out May 2017). This month, the band will play showcases at Austin’s SXSW followed by Canadian tour dates. Give the video for ‘Slightest Brightest’ a spin here below.
