Melbourne hailing punk-electro artist Ecca Vandal has put out a call for more all-ages gigs in Australia.
Speaking in an interview for the Voice For Change project, Ecca Vandal spoke candidly about her belief that more all-ages gigs will help a generation of struggling kids in an inclusive environment, as Tone Deaf points out.
“I rekon we need to bring back all-ages gigs,” said Ecca, in between talking about her own experiences and challenges growing up, “so that there’s more fun things for young people to do.
“In the late 90s there was a lot of punk rock shows that were all-ages, and the best thing about playing live is looking out into the crowd and I can see lots of different types of people, lots of different communities.”
The Voice For Change project is a community-based series of videos featuring prominent Australian urban and hip hop stars musicians, as well as sporting personalities in an aim to inspire young to follow their ambitions and dreams.
Ecca went on to speak about the manner in which music has the power to blur the lines and differences between young people.
All-ages gigs can prove problematic in some instances, with Hot Dub Time Machine’s all-age Enmore Theatre show shut down by police last November amid safety concerns and licensing breaches.
Other Voice For Change ambassadors include Sampa The Great, B Wise, Urthboy and Diafrix.
