FFS, Sydney Just Lost Yet Another Live Music Venue

Stories about Sydney live music venues closing down are now so frequent that writing about them often feels like a glitch in the Matrix. Haven’t we written about this exact same thing before? Haven’t you read about it before? Haven’t we all been here before?

The answer to all these questions is yes, and that’s because every time a Sydney venue calls last drinks, the story is almost completely identical: a diabolical combo of lockout laws and noise complaints have mummified said venue and handicapped its ability to trade so badly that it becomes impossible for it to stay above water.

So here we are again, this time with Glebe venue Mr Falcon’s.

As The Brag reports, news of its closure was announced quietly on Facebook this week, with the Glebe Point Road venue confirming it would shut “until further notice” and apologising for the inconvenience.

However, another Facebook post by Tim Kent, who is apparently a Mr Falcon’s staffer, has since shone more light on the whole thing.

“Pretty fucking heart-breaking to see yet another iconic live music venue suffocated by Sydney’s irrational lock-out laws and frivolous noise complaints,” he writes. “RIP Mr Falcons.”

The hole-in-the-wall venue ran live music and entertainment seven nights a week. Music Feeds has contacted its owner Nik Hoar for comment.

Mr Falcon’s corpse is the latest on a burgeoning pile comprised of Sydney venues of all shapes and sizes which have shut up shop since the city’s lockout laws came into effect in 2014. One of the most recent has been the Newtown Social Club, which is reportedly set to be transformed into a mini-golf bar following its closure next month.
