Hawthorn Reportedly Ditching Daryl Braithwaite’s ‘The Horses’ As Unofficial Victory Anthem

Hawthorn is putting Daryl Braithwaite‘s ‘The Horses’ out to pasture as its unofficial victory anthem this AFL season.

The fist-pumping feelgood Aussie classic has been belted out following big Hawks wins since 2013, but it seems that’s no longer the way it’s gonna be, little darlin’.

Hawthorn vice-captain Isaac Smith has revealed that the Hawks “might” have a new unofficial anthem this year, telling RSN (via the Herald Sun) “We have had a bit of consultation, myself and a couple of others, and we might have a new one cranking.”

“It’s probably the only song the boys knew the words to,” he joked.

No word on what the replacement tune could possibly be yet, but Music Feeds has contacted Hawhorn FC for comment.

Meanwhile, Former Hawk Brent Guerra is credited as the man responsible for the proud tradition of brown & gold fans screaming Braithwaite’s 1990 power-ballad after their team have administered a thorough shellacking to the opposition, after he performed it with the rocker himself and other victorious Hawks at the 2013 official Grand Final dinner after they trounced Hawthorn by 50 points in the big decider.

“It was Gooey’s favourite song so he belted it out after the game and it’s become a little bit of a tradition when we have a really good interstate win we get the Horses going,” Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson previously said of the tune.

Music Feeds has also contacted Daryl for his reaction to the disappointing news.

Thanks for the good times, m8. And don’t worry, if you fall we’ll pick you up, pick you up.
