Northlane Just Dropped A Surprise New Album Called ‘Mesmer’

Northlane have just gone and surprise-dropped their fourth album Mesmer, and you can hear it right now.

The Sydney outfit released new single ‘Citizen’ earlier in the week, and now they’ve just decided to give us a whole damn album after their weird Facebook chat bot teased that something big might happen today.

Mesmer was recorded in New Jersey in September of last year with producer David Bendeth, who has also worked with Paramore and Bring Me The Horizon.

Northlane say surprise-dropping the record is their way of “rewarding our fans for everything”.

“Through determination, hard work, sacrifice and a bit of luck, we are able to travel the world taking our music to fans both old and new,” the band say in a statement.

“We’re able to spend time crafting the music we want to hear with the benefit of not having to leave the studio early to go and work a job. To an artist these are real luxuries. We appreciate them more than anything and we’re in the position of being able to do this because of you – our incredible fans who continue to support us. You free us to be the artists we want to be.”

They say the recording process was the “toughest we’ve ever endured”, but have come out of it all with a record that they’re proud of.

“We felt we owed it to this album to try and think creatively about every aspect of the way people would experience Mesmer, like a gift from us to you that is being unboxed. We wanted to make everyone’s discovery of this moment special.”

It’s Northlane’s first album since 2015’s Node, and the second since new frontman Marcus Bridge joined the fray.

You can catch them playing their new material around the country in May, but for now go and get stuck into Mesmer. Check out ‘Citizen’ and the Mesmer album art, below.
