PREMIERE: Amy Shark Is The Checkout Chick From Hell In New Video For ‘Weekends’

Triple J Hottest 100 of 2016 runner-up Amy Shark has pulled a brand new music video off the shelf for her freshly squeezed sophomore single ‘Weekends’, and we’re thrilled to be premiering it right here, right now.

Starring the Gold Coast singer as a disenchanted checkout chick working in a suburban grocery store, the minimalistic Jude Kalman-directed clip provides the perfect backdrop for the brooding, melancholy track about scraping by.

“If there were ever an ‘Adore’ part 2 it would probably be ‘Weekends’,” Shark tells Music Feeds of the follow-up to her breakout hit. “I remember some of the best days were when you would work a part time job and all you really cared about was making enough money to buy a few vodka lime sodas on Saturday night. It’s actually a pretty personal, semi-controversial song disguised as a big fun pop track!

Speaking to Music Feeds for a forthcoming interview, Shark added, “We hit that big hip hop shuffle behind the guitar riff and I was like, ‘This is so good…this is going to be the next single.”

Sliced off Shark’s forthcoming debut EP Night Thinker – which is due for release on Friday, 21st April – ‘Weekends’ is available as instant gratification for anyone who pre-orders the full disc.

Give the official video a watch below, and catch Amy Shark performing live around the country at Groovin The Moo festival and its sideshows alongside Milky Chance, plus BASSINTHEGRASS festival in the coming months.
