Another April Fool’s Day has come and gone, and we’re all a little more cynical because of it.
While Music Feeds‘ ingenious April Fool’s creation clearly topped the charts for music-related pranks, there were a bunch of others which also scored an A+ in our books.
So without further ado, here are our favourites:
Tool Have A New Frontman
While Tool continue work on their long-awaited new album, the band announced that frontman Maynard James Keenan “has enlisted the help of Sammy Hagar to temporarily replace him as the vocalist for the slow moving internationally recognized rock monster truck, Tool”.
“There seems to be this invisible speed limit we’ve been holding ourselves to,” Keenan jokes.
“I believe Sammy can help us get all pistons firing and break some sound barrier. Sammy is the only vocalist I’m aware of that was able to take an already established Van Halen an even greater distance. Hopefully this shift will help speed things along.”
The BBC’s David Attenborough Doco About Grime
The BBC tweeted an image of Sir David Attenborough posing with a bunch of grime musicians for a new documentary series called ‘Life Of Grime’, and the joke was so good that it seemed to fool grime MC Stormzy, who tweeted that he’d sent a DM to the BBC about it, before realising it was actually a joke:

The Interns’ Aussie Coachella Poster
The Interns ‘screenshotted’ a Snapchat from Diplo which supposedly ‘leaked’ news of a new festival coming to Australia from the organisers behind Coachella.
The festival was called Goldrush, and was due to take place in Ballarat in November. Gorillaz, Midnight Oil and Lorde were convincing headliners, but we reckon it would’ve cost far too much to get Nikki Webster, the entire cast of Australian Idol 2003 and Eiffel 65 on the same lineup.
Montaigne’s Memeified Music Video
Montaigne took to Twitter for a “surprise drop” of the official music video for her song ‘Because I Love You’, which she called her “best work yet”. We tend to agree…

In Hearts Wake’s EDM Remix EP & Tour
Aussie label UNFD distressed In Hearts Wake fans by announcing a remix EP which would feature versions of the heavy band’s songs by some of Australia’s best EDM producers.
“Now you can two step with us at shows and crip walk with us in clubs,” the band said about the EP, which will be released on 31st April — a date which doesn’t exist. They also dropped tour dates in support of the EP, just to hit the joke for a home run.
Daft Punk’s New ‘R△CK R▽LL’ Tour
Announcing a Daft Punk tour is the oldest trick in the book, but it’s one that people keep falling for, so why not?
Mixmag announced a 25-date ‘R△CK R▽LL’ tour for the French duo, which would have seen them travel throughout Asia, America, Europe and even Africa.
“Each show will be presented in 4D sound: this version of Daft Punk will be so real that you will be able to see, hear, touch and taste us,” read a statement from the duo.
“Thomas has been having sleepless nights after reading countless Facebook comments begging for them to come back. Guy-Manuel has been the same — at one point he didn’t eat for three weeks.”
Aussie fans missed out this time, but we’re sure to make the next fake announcement.
Ableton’s ‘Sax For Live’ Announcement
Music software giant Ableton announced a new virtual instrument called ‘Sax For Live’ (a play on their ‘Max For Live’ system), which promised “a new world of sonic possibilities” for anyone wanting to recreate a saxophone in their Ableton Live set.
“After countless years on our most un-requested feature list, and more than days of detailed sampling, sound design, and engineering, today is the day that now sees Sax for Live proudly unleashed to the world,” the company announced, before sharing some legit free downloads of the ‘Sax For Live’ instrument on their Website.

Royal Albert Hall’s Emoji Concert:
Iconic London venue Royal Albert Hall announced an upcoming concert called ‘Tweets Live’, featuring “recreations of some of Twitter’s greatest 140-character statements with live orchestral and emojial accompaniment, as audience members get the chance to like or retweet their favourites using coloured cards on their seats.”
