Outspoken rap duo A.B. Original have called out police brutality against the Aboriginal community with a new music video and website for their latest single ‘Report To The Mist’.
The fourth and final single from Briggs and Trials’ somewhat controversial debut album Reclaim Australia, ‘Report To The Mist’ has now been paired with a string of strong statements about Aboriginal deaths in custody.
The video for ‘Report To The Mist’, which you can watch below, has its own companion website, which features a bunch of startling figures about Indigenous mortality and rates of incarceration.
In a heartfelt statement posted to the ‘Report To The Mist’ website, Gomeroi woman Kelly Briggs says:
“When I look past my anger I feel deep sorrow — sorrow that this country for over 220 years has not valued Aboriginal lives. If it did, this article would not have to be written.
“I would not lie in bed fearing for my family members that are imprisoned, that the next time I see them will be at their funerals. I wouldn’t be terrified that my own children will one day make a mistake that puts them in a harmful judicial system.
“This country must do better. Conversations are taking place but there must be a sense of urgency because as it stands, Aboriginal people are still dying entirely preventable deaths while incarcerated.”
A.B. Original will support Body Count’s upcoming Australian tour in June, and will also perform at Tasmania’s Dark Mofo Festival in the same month.
