Dream Theater Frontman Forgets Lyrics To ‘Black Hole Sun’ During Chris Cornell Tribute

Footage has emerged of Dream Theater frontman James LaBrie forgetting some of the lyrics to Soundgarden‘s song ‘Black Hole Sun’ while performing the track in honour of the late Chris Cornell.

Crowd-shot video from Dream Theater’s recent show in Bucharest, Romania (below) sees LaBrie sing the first half of the song’s opening verse, before forgetting the words and instead singing, “I forgot the fucking words.”

The lyrics he missed were:

Boiling heat, summer stench

‘Neath the black the sky looks dead

Call my name through the cream

And I’ll hear you scream again

Later on, a frustrated LaBrie can be heard saying “shit” into his microphone, before he and keyboardist Jordan Rudess make their way into the Dream Theater song ‘Wait For Sleep’. Watch video of the awkward moment, below.

Cornell died last week at the age of 52, following Soundgarden’s show in Detroit. His death has since been ruled a suicide, as the likes of his bandmates, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, Corey Taylor, Bush and LIVE all paid tribute to the late musician.

Shihad’s Tom Larkin has also said that Cornell’s death highlights the continuing issues around mental health in the music industry.
