Germany’s Rock Am Ring Festival Evacuated After Suspected Terror Threat

The first day of German festival Rock Am Ring has ended early after the crowd was evacuated due to a suspected terror threat.

Around 90,000 people were evacuated by festival organisers leaving fans uncertain as to whether the festival will continue over the next two days.

“Due to a terrorist threat the police have advised us to interrupt the festival,” festival organisers wrote in a statement.

“We ask all festival visitors to leave the festival site in a calm and controlled manner towards the exits and camping grounds.”

Festival organisers have since updated patrons once again saying that they hope to continue the festival tomorrow and will hold a press conference at 11am Saturday, German time, to provide further updates.

“The organizers of Rock am Ring and the police are working nightshifts to take all necessary measures to guarantee a safe festival,” they wrote.

Aussie band The Living End were due to play the festival but the festival was evacuated just as they were due to take to the stage.

“Everyone is safe and sound as investigations are being made. We are not sure when the festival site will be open again but it looks like the festival organizers plan for the show to go on tomorrow,” they wrote on their Facebook page.

Simple Plan, Rag ‘N’ Bone Man and Basement were also due to play.

The terror threat comes just a fortnight after a terror attack killed 22 and left more than 50 injured at an Ariana Grande gig in Manchester.
