The Tea Party Announce ‘Transmission’ 20th Anniversary Australian Tour

Canadian rockers The Tea Party have made good on last week’s teaser and have today announced their return to Australia for a national tour in support of the 20th anniversary of their third studio album, Transmission.

The tour will take place in theatres across Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in October and November this year and will see the band perform Transmission in its entirety. Featuring Tea Party favourites like ‘Temptation’, ‘Psychopomp’ and ‘Release’ (the profits of which were donated to the White Ribbon Foundation), 1997’s Transmission is widely lauded as an album that experiments with dark and confronting subject matters.

“We went into the deepest, darkest depths to bring back the light,” explains vocalist Jeff Martin. “‘Psychopomp’ for example, provides a glimpse into the afterlife, ‘Army Ants’ echoes with imagery borrowed from the dystopian works of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, while the album’s biggest hit ‘Temptation’ speaks to the all-consuming power of relentless desire.”

“It’s a pretty angry record,” adds drummer Jeff Burrows. “Jeff Martin was in a good head space, but he was going through a lot of personal things that brought out a lot of aggression.”

The Tea Party toured Australia earlier this year with shows alongside The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Youth Orchestras. They are also no strangers to anniversary tours, having played shows across Australia in 2015 for the 20th anniversary of their 1995 album The Edges Of Twilight.
