The Killers Are Planning To Tour Their “Heaviest” Album Ever In Australia Next Year

UPDATE: The Killers have now announced a 2018 Australian tour.

ORIGINAL STORY: In news worth making a ~hot fuss~ about, not only have The Killers just revealed that their new album Wonderful Wonderful will be “heavier than anything” they’ve “ever done”, we can also expect to see them touring the crap out of it down under in 2018.

The Las Vegas rockers have already confirmed a blockbuster gig at this year’s AFL Grand Final, but they recently tipped off News Corp Australia that they’ll be returning next year to “tour Australia extensively” for the first time since 2013.

“We’re excited to go back even if it’s just for a minute [for the Grand Final],” drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr said last week. “We’re planning a full-on assault of Australia next year. We love Australia. I could live there.”

And now, frontman Brandon Flowers has backed up the same sentiments, adding that he’s a big fan of Aussie musos like Jack Ladder, Kirin J Callinan and rock legends The Church.

“I remember trying to find [Church frontman] Steve Kilbey’s house at Bondi Beach,” he says. “Like some sort of stalker, trying to figure out which one was his. I never did find it. Maybe next time.”

The band have also dished more deets on their new LP, which Flowers reckons is “heavier than anything we’ve ever done”, admitting that they shopped around for producers before finally settling on Irish heavyweight Jacknife Lee, who’s previous credits include U2, The Cars and REM.

“He’s a believer in rock n’roll and he knew that we were in a rock n’roll band, but he’s also very aware of what’s going on today,” Vannucci, Jr explains. “You can’t do what’s done. It’s been done already. So he was very sensitive to that, and that helped us.”

Speaking of rock n’roll, Flowers also reserved some grim words for the way the music industry has almost wiped out mainstream rock music since The Killers’ blockbuster debut Hot Fuss was released back in ’04.

“There’s always been junk and good stuff; it’s just right now the junk’s winning,” he says.

“There’s no home for rock bands. Even just listening to the rock radio station in Las Vegas and it’s just changed so much. Ten years ago the songs that I’m hearing on the radio now, wouldn’t have been played on it.

“It’s so weird how much it’s changed and what rock music is or isn’t any more. We were so lucky to get in the door when we did.”
