Pandora Reportedly Set To Cease Operations In Australia

UPDATE: Pandora has confirmed that it will be “shutting down” its Australian operations on 31st July, as The Music Network points out.

An email sent to Australian and New Zealand subscribers has thanked users for using the service, and notes that after 31st July “…you will no longer be able to access the Pandora app or website”.

ORIGINAL STORY: Pandora could be set to put an end to its operations in Australia and New Zealand in the coming days.

AdNews reports that the streaming platform’s founder Tim Westergreen is preparing to step down from his role, and that Pandora will subsequently cease operations in Australia.

Pandora’s business in Australia has never really kept up with its growth worldwide or in the US, with the platform enjoying an 80 million strong subscriber base worldwide compare to just 1.2 million users down under.

The latest news follows from the decision by Pandora Australia managing director Jane Huxley stepping down from her role just six months ago, with no replacement having yet been named.

If Pandora does end its Australian business it will be the latest in a line of streaming services to be boxed out of the market by the dominant Spotify.

The news comes shortly after it was revealed that of of those failed  services Guvera is under investigation by a corporate watchdog after failing to return over 3,000 investors $180 million in investments.
