Gerard Way Pays Tribute To Chester Bennington, Says He’s “Devastated”

Former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has paid tribute to Linkin Park‘s Chester Bennington who died last week at the age of 41.

Both bands toured together back in 2007 and Way shared his memories of the rock legend with Nerdist.

“I was devastated to hear about Chester,” he said.

“He was actually at my wedding. Not a lot of people were there because we got married super quickly at the end of the tour when half the people had gone home. So there were literally only 30 or 40 people there, and he was one of them.”

Way met his wife on the same tour they did with Linkin Park and he credited Bennington and the band for that saying, “that changed my life.”

“My memories of that period and meeting [wife] Linds again are tied into Chester and his band,” he said.

He further said that we need to talk more about depression and that it’s something he’s wary of addressing in his comic book series ‘Doom Patrol’.

“I’ve been through depression, dark times, and therapy. I can really apply that stuff to these characters.”

Earlier in the week, Bennington’s Linkin Park bandmates paid tribute to the musician writing, “We love you, and miss you so much.”
