Tim Minchin’s Hilarious New Ballad About The Marriage Plebiscite Has Aussies Cheerin’

Just when things seemed their darkest with the Turnbull Government’s same-sex marriage postal vote shitshow, Aussie comic legend Tim Minchin has appeared like a majestic eagle in the hell-flames of Mordor to lift our spirits.

He’s done what he does best, and penned a witty musical pisstake about the cooked marriage equality plebiscite, and the internet is absolutely CHEERIN’.

As we’ve seen Minchin do in the past with such musical gems as ‘Come Home Cardinal Pell’, the comic has used the power of LOLs and piano balladry to demonstrate the very obvious point that this whole postal vote rigmarole is fucked, and Australia just needs to bloody get on with it and legalise same-sex marriage already.

“A heartfelt song to my homeland, recorded last night on my iPhone. With love,” writes Minchin. “With apologies to that fabulous, much-missed genius, Peter Allen.”

Cleverly dubbed ‘I Still Call Australia Hom…ophobic’ in a satire of Allen’s patriotic anthem, it’s legitimately powerful enough to make you laugh and cry at the same time, while leaving a crackling fire of warm hope burning in your feels region.

It also comes after fellow Aussie musos Cub Sport penned a heartfelt statement slamming the Government’s non-binding postal vote on marriage equality.
