INXS super-fans will soon be able to get their hands on a bunch of the iconic Aussie rockers’ tour gear thanks to a new auction about to kick off in October.
Musical instruments used during INXS concerts and recording sessions from the private collection of Kirk Pengilly — the band’s founding guitarist, saxophonist and backing vocalist — are set to go under the hammer.
The collection includes gear used in studio recordings for tunes including ‘The Swing’, ‘Listen Like Thieves’, ‘X’, ‘Welcome to Wherever You Are’, ‘Kick’ and concert tours for those Albums, as well as ‘Elegantly Wasted’ and ‘Switch’, including Pengilly’s 1964 Fender L-Series Stratocaster ‘Candy Apple Red’ guitar (see below).
“This is my favourite guitar in the collection,” the rock legend says. “I used it on various records from the ‘X’ album onwards. A truly great sounding instrument.”
Also up for grabs is the Selmer MK-VI baritone saxophone, which he used on the recordings of ‘Bitter Tears’ and ‘All Around’.
The collection of 43 lots is valued between AU$159,600 to $229,500, with the auction to go down on 24th October at The Hughenden in Woollahra from 6pm.
The collection will also be on exhibition from October 19th-24th between 10am and 5pm.
