Beyoncé And Aaliyah Auditioned For Early ’00s Flick ‘Josie And The Pussycats’

This week the soundtrack for 2001 flick Josie And The Pussycats was reissued and people have once again started talking about the movie that followed the ups-and-downs of a fictional girl band.

The cast of Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid and Rosario Dawson all reunited for the occasion but now news has emerged that suggests the cast could have been very different.

As Billboard report, Beyoncé, Aaliyah and TLC‘s Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez all auditioned for the movie but obviously didn’t end up in the parts.

“The fact that Beyoncé, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Aaliyah came in to audition was crazy,” co-writer and director Harry Elfont told Billboard.

“I think it was 2000. We read Left Eye twice. She really wanted to play the part. Beyoncé was really quiet and shy…It was a comedy and Aaliyah was more serious and thoughtful. We wanted someone who could really play the comedy.”

Aaliyah tragically died the year the film was released while Left Eye passed away in 2002. Beyoncé went on to star in Austin Powers In Goldmember and Dreamgirls, among other films.
