Macklemore Says “Love Is Winning” As His Equality Anthem Hits #1 On iTunes Australia

Macklemore has dismissed the haters, telling fans that “love is winning” after his marriage equality anthem ‘Same Love’ hit #1 on the Australian iTunes charts just days prior to his controversial performance of the song at the NRL Grand Final.

Taking to Twitter this morning to speak about a Tony Abbott-backed petition which is calling for the song to be banned from the Grand Final, Macklemore said, “Yesterday someone started a petition in Australia to ban me from playing ‘Same Love’ at the NRL Grand Final. Today it’s #1 on iTunes. Love is winning.”

Macklemore actually has three songs in the Australian iTunes Top 10 at the time of writing, with ‘Same Love’, ‘Good Old Days’ and ‘Glorious’ all getting nods, proving that all the controversy may be working in his favour.

The American singer-songwriter has also just announced that his wife Tricia Davis is currently pregnant with their second child, in a video posted to Instagram (below).

Macklemore’s latest iTunes success comes after he responded to the controversy surrounding his upcoming NRL performance yesterday, after receiving messages from “angry old white dudes in Australia”.

Tony Abbott’s daughter has also come out against her ex-PM dad, to back Macklemore’s performance. Pauline Hanson, on the other hand, reckons we should have John Farnham or Daryl Braithwaite perform at the Grand Final.

The 2017 NRL Grand Final will take place this Sunday night at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.
