Tony Abbott Said He’s A Savage Garden Fan But The Love Is Not Mutual

Tony Abbott has revealed that he’s a Savage Garden fan while once again criticising the NRL’s decision to book Macklemore for the NRL Grand Final.

The US rapper performed ‘Same Love’ at the Grand Final yesterday despite opposition from people including the former PM.

As Junkee reports, Abbott had a chat with Ray Hadley on 2GB this morning and reiterated that he thinks Macklemore was a bad choice.

“I think we could have got someone who was a) Australian and b) not going to be contentious on this current issue,” he said.

“Like me, Ray, you probably don’t listen to any music from after 1975 except the Travelling Wilburys,” he continued before adding, “And Savage Garden! They were pretty good!”

Yep, Abbott who is actively campaigning against same-sex marriage right now is a fan of an Aussie duo which was fronted by Darren Hayes who is in a same-sex marriage.

Hayes is an equality activist and recently married his husband Richard Cullen for the third time in California as a show of support for those who are battling for equal rights around the world.

The singer caught wind of Abbott’s comments and immediately quipped back, “I’m no fan of Tony of Abbott.”

He later tweeted, “The tide changes but not without dragging up a lot of mud first. Hang in there Aussies. Love wins in the end.”
