Why Polish Club Are On The Toilet Learning The Lyrics To ‘Despacito’

Aussie rockers Polish Club have been caught with their pants down, but for a good cause.

The duo have pledged to learn all the lyrics to Luis Fonsi’s hit single ‘Despacito’ while sitting on the toilet, and it’s all in the name of the something called Learn On The Loo.

Run by not-for-profit organisation WaterAid, the initiative is raising funds to help provide access to safe toilets, clean water and good hygiene for the one-in-three people worldwide who don’t have access to a working loo.

“I reckon I’ve learned half of what I know whilst getting business done in the loo,” Polish Club frontman David Novak tells Music Feeds.

“We were tossing up what we should concentrate our efforts into, with plenty of people advising me to learn something of actual use in my life. So obviously we’ve chosen to learn how to sing and perform Luis Fonsi’s ‘Despacito’, featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber.

“While this may seem like something that might be a breeze, I’ve learned the hard way the ridiculous amount of quick-fire Spanish going on in that song. Then there’s the actual music. I mean, we’ll probably struggle even get the lyrics down convincingly, so we’ll see how far we get.

“So yeah… ¿dónde está el baño? [Where’s the bathroom?]”

Polish Club’s poo-room pledge will become one of the band’s priorities this November, when the Learn On The Loo initiative kicks off, and given that we each spend around eight hours on the toilet each month, there’s plenty of time for some lavatory learning.

“As people learn and share their progress with friends, they’ll be raising money to assist disadvantaged communities to access life-changing sanitation in countries such as Cambodia, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste,” says WaterAid CEO Rosie Wheelan.

“For just $40, you can help someone access a decent toilet for the first time.”

Oh and look out for Poo-lish Polish Club on their ‘Christmas In December’ national tour, in case they drop a sneaky cover of ‘Despacito’.
