Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan Covered Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ & It’s Actually Incredible

So it turns out Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan covered one of Miley Cyrus‘ biggest hits over the weekend, and it’s actually great.

Corgan (who’s now publicly going by his birth name William Patrick) dropped a sneaky acoustic cover of ‘Wrecking Ball’ in Toronto, Canada on Friday night — as Alternative Nation points out — and audio of the performance has since hit the internets.

The cover is slow and kind of melancholic, and you can stream the whole thing below while imaging Corgan’s bald head swinging on a wrecking ball.

Back in 2014, Corgan said he actually turned down a chance to work with Cyrus, but said he might not turn down an opportunity in the future, telling France’s OUI FM:

“If she called me and said, ‘Would you write a song with me?,’ I would consider it. Because again, she is very talented, and it would be a cool thing to explore. But I’m not going to write a song and sit by the fire, hoping that Miley will pick my song over the next stupid song.

“The way I look at it is she’s very talented. As long as somebody’s talented, you can argue all day about should they do this should they not. But she’s very talented. She’s a very good singer. So at least I can stand back and say qualitatively that she’s a better pop star than 99.99 per cent of them, even if I don’t like the music.”

Corgan recently announced an Australian screening of his new album film ‘Pillbox’.
