Midnight Oil Concert Cut Short After Guitarist Slips On Stage, Tears Hamstring

Midnight Oil‘s show in Melbourne was cut short last night, after guitarist Jim Moginie slipped and tore his hamstring on stage.

The incident took pace during an encore, at the close of the Aussie icons’s performance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The band took to Facebook shortly after to tell fans:

“Thanks to all at the Myer Music Bowl tonight. Sorry for the short encore but Jim took a spill and hurt his leg at end of main set. Wishing him a quick recovery.”

In a statement this morning, the band revealed that Moginie has torn his hamstring, and may require surgery.

“Thanks from Jim for all the good wishes. He’s in good spirits but has a badly torn hamstring after slipping onstage [sic] last night,” they wrote.

“He will get further tests in hospital today to determine whether surgery is required. Next update as soon as those results are in — probably around 8pm.”

The Oils are currently in the midst of their ‘The Great Circle’ World Tour, and have four shows left in Australia, including another in Melbourne and others in Sydney and Wollongong.

The band are yet to confirm whether Moginie will be able to play the rest of the tour.

Last night’s incident comes after Midnight Oil temporarily stopped their show in Perth recently, in order to have a rowdy ‘bearded man’ removed from the crowd.

UPDATE:

Midnight Oil’s tour will go on as planned despite Moginie’s injury.
