Camp Cope Call Out Music Industry Sexism On New Song ‘The Opener’

Melbourne three-piece Camp Cope have released the first taste of their upcoming second album, and it’s an all-out call-out of music industry sexism.

The band’s new single ‘The Opener’ is their first new piece of music since ‘Keep Growing’, and they’ve actually performed the song at a number of recent shows.

Led by frontwoman Georgia Maq’s bullshit-free lyrics and impassioned vocal delivery, the song is quite clearly one of their most rousing anthems.

“It’s another man telling us we can’t fill up the room,” Maq sings on the track.

“It’s another man telling us to book a smaller venue / ‘Nah hey c’mon girls we’re only thinking about you’ / Well see how far we’ve come not listening to you.”

Signing off, she belts, “Yeah just get a female opener, that’ll fill the quota.”

The follow-up to Camp Cope’s self-titled debut album is expected to be released in 2018, and the band will be previewing songs from their next album at a show in Melbourne next month.
