A Chilean muso is suing Disney, claiming the song ‘Let It Go’ from beloved animated blockbuster Frozen is just a rip-off of one he wrote five years earlier.
According to reports by TMZ, singer-songwriter Jaime Ciero has slapped The Mouse — plus singers Demi Lovato and Idina Menzel who performed the single & movie versions of the track, respectively — with a courtcase over the 2013 flick’s showstopping number, arguing that it bears a more-than-coincidental resemblance to his 2008 tune ‘Volar’.
Ciero talks up his own ditty as “a huge international success reaching millions of listeners and landing on numerous charts of the most popular, top-performing songs”, and reckons the two tracks bear striking similarities in “note combinations, structures, hooks, melodies, lyrics, themes, production and textures”.
He’s reportedly chasing profits from both the movie and its music, and given that Frozen is currently listed as the world’s ninth-highest-grossing film of all time (according to Business Insider), that’s gotta amount to a lot of frosting.
None of the three defendants have responded to the allegations at the time of writing.
