Australia’s 2018 Eurovision Contestant Announced

With Australia set to make its fourth appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest next year, it’s now been revealed who’ll be representing the green and gold in 2018.

Australian singer and former Australian Idol contestant Jessica Mauboy will take over from previous Aussie contestants Isaiah Firebrace, Guy Sebastian and Dami Im in Lisbon, Portugal next year, with hopes for another top 10 Aussie finish in 2018.

Mauboy made history back in 2014 when she became the first non-European solo artist to perform as an interval act at Eurovision, but this time she’ll be representing Australia in the main event.

“Eurovision shows how much the power of song can transcend differences,” says Mauboy. “I will sing my heart out for Australia, I’m so proud to be officially representing my country and a little bit nervous — mainly about the stress of the dress!”

First place in Eurovision 2017 went to Ukraine, with Isaiah Firebrace’s song ‘Don’t Come Easy’ taking out ninth place even though a streaker wearing an Aussie flag managed to disrupt proceedings.

Australia did come third at Junior Eurovision earlier this year though, thanks to 13-year-old singer Isabella Clarke and her song ‘Speak Up’.

Eurovision 2018 will be the the 63rd edition of the song contest, and will take place in May. The competition will be broadcast by SBS in Australia.
