Plans have been unveiled for a huge INXS museum in Ballina on the New South Wales north coast.
As News Corp Australia reports, the proposed design was revealed at a meeting hosted by the Northern Rivers NSW Business Chamber on Tuesday, including a model of the proposed complex with buildings in the shape of the letters I, N, X and S.
If it goes ahead, there are plans for the museum to hold a bunch of interactive experiences, including a hologram of INXS performing, giant projections, private offices and a multi-function space with a double-height glass ceiling, which would be used for other large community events and performances.
The project is helmed by INXS’ manager Christopher Murphy and his project partner Sara Szabo, and would reportedly be constructed as an arts, business and entertainment hub near the Ballina-Byron Gateway Airport if it goes ahead, with travellers supposedly able to see the letters from the sky as they fly in.
Murphy has told The Music Network that financial advisers believe the museum could add “at least $200 million per annum to the local economy”.
“There are tens of thousands of rare and one of a kind archives,” Murphy says. “There are near 10,000 original photos alone.”
Murphy is reportedly hoping to open the museum in 2019. Meanwhile, INXS fans are also petitioning for a statue of the band’s late frontman, Michael Hutchence, to be erected in Sydney.
