UPDATE: Surviving Members Of The Cranberries Release Statement Following Dolores O’Riordan’s Death
ORIGINAL STORY: Tributes are flowing in from throughout the music world following the death of The Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan at the age of 46.
According to a statement released by the band, the singer was “in London for a short recording session” at the time of her death, but “no further details are available at this time”.
“Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” say the band.
The Irish Times reports that police in Westminster said they were called to a hotel in the area at 9:05am on Monday morning.
“A woman in her mid-40s was pronounced dead at the scene,” a police statement said. “At this early stage the death is being treated as unexplained.”
O’Riordan was the lead singer of The Cranberries since the early ’90s, when she joined brothers Noel and Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler as part of the Irish rock group. The band — best known for their hits ‘Zombie’, ‘Dreams’ and ‘Linger’ — went on hiatus in 2003, but returned in 2009 before O’Riordan was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2014.
O’Riordan split from her husband of 20 years in 2014, and is survived by three children. She last performed in Australia with The Cranberries in 2012.
The likes of Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Liz Phair, Hozier, Kodaline and Australian band Middle Kids have already paid tribute to the singer online.

My first time hearing Dolores O'Riordan's voice was unforgettable. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. I'd never heard somebody use their instrument in that way. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family.
