The surviving members of The Cranberries have released a statement following the death of their frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan at the age of 46.
Following an outpouring of emotion from the international music community, the band’s Fergal Lawler and brothers Noel and Mike Hogan have taken to social media to tell fans:
“We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today.”
According to a statement released by the group’s publicist, O’Riordan was “in London for a short recording session” at the time of her death on Monday, but “no further details are available at this time”.
“Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” the statement reads.
O’Riordan released five studio albums with The Cranberries before they went on hiatus in 2003. After their return in 2009, the band released two more albums, including 2017’s Something Else. O’Riordan also released two solo albums during her career, the latest being 2009’s No Baggage.
